Five Star, Silver Award from Visit Britain is the official grading, but Spears Cross offers a great deal more. Finalist in the Excellence Awards 2006/7 from South West Tourism, Winner of the Best B&B of the Year 2007/8 from Visit Exmoor, Silver Award (the first to apply for accreditation on the whole of Exmoor) from the Green Tourism Business Scheme and a Gold Award from Taste of the West (one of only two B&Bs in Somerset to gain this accolade). All this has been achieved in a little more than two years of buying the property.
Spears Cross offers one of the most atmospheric places to stay in Exmoor. The majority of the house was built in 1460. The fine oak front door leads to an elm Plank and Monton hallway with leaded glass. The comfortable lounge has wooden flooring, ceiling beams and an inglenook fireplace with an ornate wood burning stove. It is the perfect retreat after a day's walk on Exmoor and tea and coffee are always available.
